"... Having exhausted all avenues of research in her studies of pony magic, Twilight Sparkle went to the Far East, to the lands of the Qilin, the Tigers and Flying Serpents, from whom had she learned the use of CHI, the fabled metaphysical energy from within all life. Through vigorous training of Martial Arts, she had learnt its expression, and through Meditation she had learn its control...
...In time, under different masters, she would gain mastery over the magicks of the Orient, as well as enlightenment through Inner Peace and self-Epiphany. The lessons she learned, she would eventually share with Equestria upon her return..."

Why not? I'm quite certain Twilight would like to travel and see the world. And it seems headphones and earrings are in vogue in that world, too. It's good, they look fine on her. Then again, I love her, I'm biased. I really like her mane! [link] It's like she decided to party with Vinyl. What's important is that it works nicely with her face here. The general eye shape is hers indeed, and I love the way you did eyelashes and eyebrows here. Overall, love her face here, bias or not. The spiky-ish tail that nevertheless stays true to her norm looks interesting. Finally, the very elongated limbs give an unusual impression, but it works here. I like the shading of her body and the way her hair, tail in particular, reflects the lights. As for the city itself, I like the combination of skyscrapers in the distance and the older architecture closer up. Despite the sketchiness, they look good. It may even add to their charm a bit. Well done!
Backgrounds, backgrounds, backgrounds. Every time I swear myself to work diligently with them, but still leaving them in a sketch condition. And honestly, hair coloring is my weak point. I'm trying to learn to draw them like that: [link]
Hmm... try doing more 'fluid' hair outlines, that is, less solid borders, with hairs making it uneven. Then colour it in slightly less stark colours, if you want similarity with this particular colouring. Else, just adding more various small strands without detailing them much would work well. I think.
And well, the sketch does its job. I'm sure you'll get some background done fully soon. Until then, I guess you could limit their scope, so that you have less to finish. Just thinking aloud... well, a-type.
